Three Burglars Nabbed After Spree Targeting Elderly Across London and Surrounds

Operation Bayview Cracks Gang Behind £200k Burglaries

Detectives from the Met’s Flying Squad teamed up with North West and West Area units to launch Operation Bayview, tackling a surge in residential burglaries mostly hitting the elderly and vulnerable. The trio struck across London, Hampshire, Surrey, and Buckinghamshire between June 26 and July 1, 2021.

Guilty Pleas and Serious Sentences

All three men admitted guilt on January 28th and were sentenced on March 21st:

  • Lawrence Connors, 29, of High Wycombe got six years and five months for conspiracy to commit burglary and involvement in six offences.
  • Michael Doran, 23, from Northolt was handed five years and eight months for conspiracy and presence at four burglaries.
  • James O’Leary, 19, of Harrow received two years and eight months for burglary and conspiracy, plus a driving ban after pleading guilty to driving offences.

£30,000 in Loot Still Missing, Sentimental Items Lost Forever

The gang made off with an estimated £200,000 worth of property. Of this, £30,000-worth was never recovered, along with irreplaceable sentimental treasures.

How Police Cracked the Case

Detectives pieced together the case from reports across London and neighbouring counties, linking offences through stolen jewellery patterns and vehicle descriptions.

Hours of CCTV footage and ANPR data analysis, plus witness statements and surveillance, tracked down the crooks and the vehicles used in their crimes.

On July 1st, officers spotted the men leaving a High Wycombe address hit by a burglary. The suspects tried to escape but were caught by Met and Surrey Police ANPR units.

The police recovered jewellery and property valued at up to £100,000 from their vehicle and seized a high-value stolen car linked to earlier burglaries.

Detective Superintendent Figo Forouzan, West Area BCU, said: “The evidence we gathered left these men no choice but to plead guilty. They thought they were too sophisticated to get caught – but we proved them wrong. They mercilessly targeted vulnerable victims, stealing not just money but precious sentimental items that may never be recovered.”
