Teen Trio Jailed Over Brutal Knife Attack That Killed Anas Mezenner

Three 17-year-old boys were slammed with hefty sentences at the Old Bailey for their part in the savage stabbing death of Anas Mezenner. The teens appeared in court last month and were sentenced on 30 September.

Sentences Handed Down

  • The first youth, whose identity remains legally protected, was convicted of manslaughter and grievous bodily harm (GBH) relating to a second teenage victim. He received 11 years for manslaughter and 16 months for GBH, served concurrently.
  • The second, also unnamed for legal reasons, was found guilty of murder and GBH with intent. He was jailed for 18 years and 3 years concurrently.
  • The third defendant, named, was convicted of manslaughter and given a 10-year sentence.

How the Attack Unfolded

On the evening of Tuesday, 19 January, Anas and three friends gathered near West Green Road. Around 9pm in Willow Walk, N15, the group was ambushed by the suspects armed with at least three knives.

Anas was stabbed multiple times and left for dead. His friends fled but one suffered a stab wound to the back.

Paramedics and police arrived quickly, finding Anas collapsed in the street. Despite hospital efforts, he died early the next morning.

Key Evidence and Arrests

  • Police discovered a Chrysler on nearby Milton Road containing two large knives with the defendants’ fingerprints.
  • CCTV captured the suspects before and after the brutal attack.
  • Warrants executed at Turnpike Lane and Tottenham recovered more weapons and clothes matching CCTV footage.
  • Mobile phone analysis revealed incriminating messages about the attack.
  • Two suspects remained silent, while one gave a false alibi disproven by CCTV.

Police Reaction

Detective Inspector Louise Caveen said: “This was a clinical and violent attack that left a young man with fatal injuries. In seconds, Anas was stabbed, assaulted, and left to die – another tragic loss caused by knives on our streets.”

“We don’t know exactly why Anas was targeted, but believe it stems from a long-ago incident when one of his friends had their phone stolen.”

“Anas and his friends didn’t go armed, unlike the suspects who brought lethal weapons. I hope the verdict brings some comfort to Anas’s grieving family.”
