A brutal knife attack rocked Gambetta High School in Arras this morning. A teacher was killed, and two others were seriously injured in the violent assault. The suspect, a man in his 20s and former student at the school, was caught on the scene around 11.00am local time.
Suspect and Brother Arrested After School Horror
Authorities also arrested the attacker’s brother near another high school, reports BFMTV. Chilling footage has surfaced on social media showing the assailant stalking victims in the school courtyard. One teacher even tried to fight back using a chair.
French Anti-Terror Unit Takes Over Investigation
The case has been handed to French anti-terror prosecutors, signalling fears of a terror motive behind the attack. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin confirmed the swiftly executed police operation at the school.
“A police operation took place at the Gambetta high school in Arras,” said Darmanin.
Leaders Rally Support as Investigation Unfolds
French President Emmanuel Macron is on his way to Arras, promising support for victims and their families. Naima Moutchou, vice president of the National Assembly, expressed condolences and emphasised backing for the school community.
