A grim murder trial date has been set for 27-year-old Samara Glover. She faces charges over the tragic death of toddler Jayla-Jean McLaren on the Isle of Wight.

Trial Date Locked In at Portsmouth Crown Court

Glover appeared before Judge Bowes KC at Portsmouth Crown Court on Monday. She confirmed only her name and date of birth. The Newport woman stands accused of murder and causing or allowing the death of a child. No bail was granted; she remains behind bars.

Toddler Jayla-Jean’s Heartbreaking Death

On 1st August last year, little Jayla-Jean was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital with severe injuries. She was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital for specialist treatment. Despite the best efforts, the toddler died two days later, on 3rd August, from devastating head injuries. Her death rocked the local community, sparking widespread grief.

What Happens Next?

  • The case is adjourned until 23rd March, when Glover will enter her plea.
  • A provisional trial date is set for 29th June 2026.
