Brutal Hours-Long Attack Ends in Conviction
Safed Rafiq, 36, Idnan Akbar, 32, both from Luton, and Dawud Safeer, 24, from Peterborough, have been convicted for a horrific, hours-long assault. The trio viciously attacked a man after suspecting him of smashing Akbar’s car window.
Kidnapped and Tortured in Luton House
On November 29, at around 12:30pm, Rafiq lured the victim on Ash Road, Luton, first escorting him to a butcher’s shop, then forcing him back to a house on the same street. There, the victim was dragged upstairs and beaten relentlessly by Akbar, Rafiq, and Safeer.
The assault included punches, and attacks with a heated machete, baseball bat, and hammer. The nightmare finally ended when Bedfordshire Police intervened following reports of a kidnapping.
Police Rescue Victim with Serious Injuries
- Victim suffered broken bones and knife wounds
- Was hospitalised after police arrived
- Police found 13 men and 2 women at the property, all arrested
- Multiple knives and machetes seized
Rafiq and Safeer were arrested shortly after the attack. Akbar dodged capture for five months before being found in a Luton flat.
Police Call Attack ‘Truly Shocking’
Detective Constable Adam Geary said: “This is one of the most disturbing acts of violence I have come across. The attack was brutal to the extreme. Akbar, Rafiq and Safeer are incredibly dangerous men with no place in society. It’s good news they have pleaded guilty. We won’t tolerate violence like this in Bedfordshire.”
All three will be sentenced at Luton Crown Court on January 13, 2023.
