Teen Duo Charged with Murder and Arson in Romford Tragedy

Kai Cooper, 18, of Cleve Road, Leatherhead, and a 15-year-old boy from Southend appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 8 January. Both face serious charges including manslaughter of 88-year-old Josephine Smith and reckless arson risking lives.

Multiple Charges Over Separate Assaults

In addition to the manslaughter and arson charges, the pair are accused of assault by beating. This relates to a separate attack on 27 October in High Road, Ilford. While Cooper was remanded in custody, the 15-year-old was granted bail. Both are set to appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, 11 January.

Deadly Fire in Romford

The charges stem from a harrowing incident on 28 October at a home on Queens Park Road, Romford. Police were called to reports of a fire where Josephine Smith was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
