Two men charged with murder after tragic Dartford crash kills boy, leaves man fighting for life
Fatal Collision on New Barn Road
Kent Police were called to New Barn Road, Dartford, at around 9:30pm on Sunday, 1 June 2025, following a serious collision involving two grey Ford Rangers.
Three people from one vehicle were rushed to hospital. A four-year-old boy sadly died shortly after arrival. Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man remains in critical condition. A one-year-old girl suffered minor injuries.
Two Men Arrested and Charged
On Monday, 2 June, officers arrested two local men in connection with the crash. The Crown Prosecution Service authorised charges against Patrick Maughan, 53, and Owen Maughan, 27, both from Hill Rise, Darenth.
- Charged with the murder of the four-year-old boy
- Charged with grievous bodily harm with intent
- Charged with attempted wounding with intent
Both men are set to appear at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday 4 June 2025.
Police Hunt Witnesses and Video Evidence
The Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate continue to investigate. Detectives have issued a public appeal for witnesses and any CCTV or dashcam footage related to the crash.
“We’re urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who has relevant CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward,” said a Kent Police spokesperson.
