Both culprits face sentencing on Thursday, November 19.

CCTV and Forensics Seal Their Fate

The attack unfolded in broad daylight and was witnessed by three bystanders. Surveillance footage clearly captured the chilling moments leading up to the stabbing.

  • Muhammed’s blood was discovered on clothing owned by Smith and Richardson, alongside their DNA.
  • CCTV caught both men at a Lidl supermarket minutes before the attack, wearing the bloodstained clothes.
  • Richardson admitted being at the scene; Smith denied involvement, despite the evidence.

Detective Inspector Gareth Hicks of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team said, “Our investigation proved the defendants acted together to kill Muhammed Jassey.

Shocking Details from the Crime Scene

The pair were seen leaving flats near Kite Place West wearing dark hooded tops just before the attack on Whitehawk Road.

Richardson was caught on CCTV picking up Muhammed’s mobile phone from the street. The phone was later found hidden in the flat where the men were arrested. Witnesses also reported Richardson trying to smash the phone before concealing it.

“Officers acted swiftly to arrest both men at the flat,” added DI Hicks. “To this day, the motive behind this vicious, unprovoked attack remains unknown.”

Family Mourns ‘Kind and Loving’ Muhammed

Muhammed’s family released a heartfelt tribute:

“Muhammed was a good son, our firstborn, whose life was taken too soon. A kind, strong, handsome, funny, caring, loving person who always looked after others. He was a brother, partner, father, and part of a large, loving extended family. We are devastated by his loss and will miss him every day. Please respect our privacy as we grieve.”

Our thoughts are with Muhammed’s partner, young children, and family during this heartbreaking time.
