Stuart Penney and James Fairburn were locked up at Leeds Crown Court today after pleading guilty to conspiracy charges over a series of violent ATM bombings. The duo targeted cash machines across Darlington, Bradford, Keighley, and Huddersfield in a brazen crime spree that wrecked businesses and netted them a whopping £300,000.
Gas-Fuelled Blasts Cause Thousands in Damage
Between October 2017 and early 2018, the pair pumped gas into seven cash machines to trigger explosions and steal cash inside. Their reckless attacks caused severe damage to the buildings housing the ATMs — leaving thousands of pounds in repair bills.
Lavish Lifestyles Uncovered After Arrest
Police nabbed Penney and Fairburn in February 2018. Subsequent raids found large sums of cash, mobile phones, and clear signs they were living far beyond their means. Investigators charged them with conspiracy to cause explosions, steal, burgle, and handle stolen property.
The Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit (YH ROCU) led the probe that finally brought these explosive criminals to justice.
