Electrics Job Uncovers Firearms and Cocaine Stash in Hertfordshire

On 3 November 2020, electricians working in a property on Icknield Close stumbled on a shocking find. While on the job, they accidentally disturbed a bag, causing its contents to spill out. Inside was an adapted firearm and a large quantity of cocaine.

Police Swiftly Arrest Homeowner and Find More Weapons

The workers quickly called police, who rushed to the scene. They seized the bag and waited for the homeowner to return. Timothy Smith, 50, was arrested shortly after arriving home. A thorough search of the property uncovered another firearm and a canister of CS gas. Smith faced multiple charges linked to firearms and drug offences.

Forensic Links Land Another Man Behind Bars

Forensics tied the drugs and weapons to a second man. Jack Kirkham, 21, from Station Road, Arlesey, had his fingerprint on the drug packaging and DNA on a gun trigger. He was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm and drug supply offences.

Harsh Sentences Handed Down at St Albans Court

  • Timothy Smith found guilty of possession with intent to supply cocaine, two counts of possession of a prohibited firearm, and possession of a CS gas weapon.
  • Jack Kirkham found guilty of possession with intent to supply cocaine and possession of a prohibited firearm.

On 24 November 2021, Smith was sentenced to 11 years and 3 months in jail. Kirkham received 8 years and 6 months behind bars.

Detective Inspector Michael Ball said: “We are extremely pleased that the weapons and large amount of class A drugs have been removed from the streets. The dangerous weapons, that will now be destroyed, are now out of the hands of criminals.

“The sentences passed will hopefully remind people of the seriousness of these types of offences and act as a deterrent to those who deal drugs in our county. We will continue to work to make Hertfordshire a safer place for the public, but a hostile place for criminals.”
