Brutal Attack Claims Life of Vulnerable Man in Maghera
Polish Man Murdered in Unprovoked Nighttime Assault
Mr Piotr Krowka, 37, originally from Poland, was viciously attacked in Maghera on the night of Saturday, March 31, 2018. His lifeless body was found days later on April 3 inside a derelict property on Glen Road.
Attackers Sentenced: Justice Served
Adrian Kozak, 22, received an eight-year sentence, with four years in custody and four years on licence. Caolan Johnston, 21, was handed six years – three years behind bars and three years probation.
Detective Inspector Condemns ‘Sad and Senseless’ Killing
“Piotr was a vulnerable, homeless man – an innocent man who posed no threat or danger at all,” said Detective Inspector Davis. “This was an unprovoked and violent attack carried out by Adrian Kozak and Caolan Johnston, which tragically resulted in the death of Piotr Krowka.” “The post-mortem showed blunt force trauma to Piotr’s head alongside other injuries. My thoughts, and those of the entire investigation team, are with the Krowka family.” “I hope both men come to understand the gravity of their actions during their time in prison.”
Evidence and Guilty Pleas Seal Case
Before the assault, Kozak and Johnston had been out socialising with friends. Thanks to CCTV and forensic evidence, both pleaded guilty.
“Throughout this investigation, our officers worked closely with the Public Prosecution Service to secure justice,” added Detective Inspector Davis.
