Two Men Sentenced Over Deadly Brawl That Claimed Friend’s Life
Veiga-Rosa Locked Up for 20 Months
Walter Veiga-Rosa, 22, of no fixed address, was handed a 20-month prison sentence at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, 2 January. He pleaded guilty to affray and possession of an offensive weapon, stemming from a violent clash that ended with the death of their friend.
Ferreira Given Suspended Sentence and Community Hours
William Ferreira, 21, also with no fixed address, admitted affray. He received a 13-month suspended sentence, suspended for 12 months, plus 150 hours of unpaid work. Both men were friends of 21-year-old Joseph Olopo.
Tragic Night in Golders Green
The trio was with Joseph when he was fatally stabbed in Heathfield Gardens, Golders Green, on the night of Friday, 17 February 2017.
Manslaughter Conviction for De Sousa
In a related case, Jason De Sousa, 21, also homeless, was cleared of murder but found guilty of manslaughter. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison in November 2017.
