Gunmen Leave Three Innocents with Life-Changing Injuries in Hackney Park Shooting
Two men from Islington have been locked up for an attempted gangland hit that left three innocent people seriously wounded in a Hackney children’s play park.
Sheikh Dibba and Fahim Rahman Jailed for 13 Shots Fired at Innocent Bystanders
Sheikh Dibba, 21, of Central Street, and Fahim Rahman, 34, from Moreland Street, opened fire on a group in October 2020, firing 13 shots that caused life-altering injuries.
A jury found them guilty of three counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm after a tense three-week trial at the Central Criminal Court.
On 4 May, Dibba was sentenced to 35 years behind bars, while Rahman was jailed for 27 years.
Planned Attack Turns Into Terrifying Mistake
The court heard they drove a stolen car to a property on Homerton High Street, Hackney, aiming to kill rival gang members. But the men they shot at were not gangsters—they were innocent public enjoying an evening in the park.
Emergency services rushed to the scene just before 10:50 pm. Two men, aged 60 and 32, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while a 24-year-old was critically hurt.
Met Police Crack Case with CCTV Evidence
Met’s Trident detectives launched an immediate investigation. Hours of CCTV footage linked Dibba and Rahman to the shooting. Dibba was arrested on 27 November and charged with attempted murder and firearms offences. Rahman was detained earlier on 25 November and charged on 11 January 2021.
Detective Chief Inspector Rob Allen said: “This was a terrifying incident where three innocent people were seriously injured. It’s pure luck no one was killed. Had this happened earlier, there would have been children in the park – it’s chilling to think about.
“I hope these sentences send a clear message to anyone involved in gun crime. Your actions are reprehensible, and we will bring you to justice.”
“Thanks to my team and the brave victims who’ve cooperated throughout this horrific ordeal. We hope today’s outcome offers them some justice.”
“We rely on the public to help us end violent crime. Please report anyone you suspect is carrying a weapon.”
Detective Chief Superintendent Marcus Barnett added: “This shocking attack has rightly worried the local community. Thankfully, shootings are extremely rare, and fighting violence remains Met Police’s top priority.”
“If you have concerns or information about weapons in your area, speak to us – in person or anonymously.”
“We will keep working closely with specialist crime teams to make our streets safer.”
