Hull Duo Caught After Daring Bank Robbery and Terrifying Kidnap
Hull Men Plead Guilty to Bank Heist and Kidnap
Joshua Pougher, 31, from Hessle Road, Hull, and Daniel Nicklin, 31, of County Road North, Hull, have admitted to a chilling robbery and two counts of kidnap. Pougher also confessed to carrying an offensive weapon during the crime.
Machete-Wielding Raid at Hull Bank
The pair travelled from Hull to Francis Street on Wednesday 22 December 2021. At 4pm, they stormed into a local bank and threatened staff with a machete, demanding cash. Despite a quick-thinking employee alerting the emergency services, the criminals forced staff to empty tills before making their escape.
Terrifying Kidnap and High-Speed Escape Over Humber Bridge
As they fled, Pougher and Nicklin hijacked a couple’s car at traffic lights. Terrifying the victims, they forced the driver to speed through busy roads, crossing the Humber Bridge and back into Hull. During the ordeal, the male passenger was bitten as the pair bolted with the stolen cash.
Fast-Armed Police Response Nets Dangerous Criminals
Armed officers caught the duo at 7pm the same day and swiftly charged them. At their sentencing hearing on 29 October at Grimsby Magistrates Court, Her Honour Judge McKone condemned them as “dangerous offenders” showing no remorse.
Detective Constable Ian Mould praised the brave victims, saying: “Nobody should ever feel unsafe whether at work, home, or just going about their daily life. These two men showed zero care, motivated only by greed and selfishness.”
“This reckless attack won’t be tolerated. We’re committed to protecting our communities and bringing serious offenders to justice.”
