Knife Threat on Dating Site Sting Ends in Jail for Derby Thugs
Victim Tricked into Dangerous Meet-Up
Morgan Allkins and Michael Matthews held a knife to a man’s throat after luring him via a dating site. The victim, a man in his 60s, had been duped into meeting another gang member online.
Car Stolen at Knifepoint
The trio demanded the victim hand over his car or face stabbing. Terrified, he exited his Mazda MX5 and handed over the keys. The thieves drove off, sparking a police chase.
Armed Police Stop Getaway
Armed response units quickly intercepted the stolen car after a brief pursuit. The three tried to flee on foot but were nabbed nearby. Allkins and Matthews were identified as the knife-wielders in the back seat, while a teenager was the online lure.
Thieves Sentenced at Derby Crown Court
- Allkins, 21, of Portland Street, Derby, was jailed for 4½ years.
- Matthews, 21, from Harrison Street, Derby, received 5 years and 3 months.
- The teenager got a referral order after youth court appearance.
The robbery occurred on February 19, with sentencing on Wednesday, 28 June.
