Monstrous Rapists Sentenced After Victim’s Brave Stand
Mark Lindow groomed a 16-year-old girl in January 2020 and raped her five times over eight months. His vile crimes finally caught up with him after the victim reported the abuse to Kent Police in December 2020.
Damning Evidence Found on Lindow’s Phone
Following his arrest in January 2021, police uncovered three indecent videos on Lindow’s mobile. He was charged with multiple counts of rape and has been held in custody ever since.
The final horrific attack in August 2020 involved accomplice Kurt Baker. Although Baker’s face was only partly caught on video, his distinctive tattoos gave him away. Police released images of the tattoos, prompting the public to help identify and lead to Baker’s arrest in June 2021.
Guilty Verdicts and Heavy Prison Sentences
- Mark Lindow, 60, from Folkestone, was found guilty of five rapes, making and distributing indecent images of a child. He admitted further image offences. Lindow was slammed with a total 21-year sentence plus a five-year extended licence. He must serve at least two thirds behind bars.
- Kurt Baker, 39, from Gravesend, was found guilty of three rapes. He was handed 12 years, also needing to serve at least two thirds.
Police Praise Victim’s Courage and Justice Served
“These two men subjected the victim to the worst exploitation and abuse,” said Superintendent Keith Roberts, Kent Police. “I commend her bravery in coming forward. They completely dehumanised her but will now face the consequences.”
“Despite the overwhelming evidence, they coldly took this to trial. Our Missing and Child Exploitation Team provided top support and will continue to do so. I am pleased justice is done. These dangerous men can no longer harm others.”
