Knife-Wielding Duo Jailed After Harlow Brawl

Two men caught with a knife following a violent scrape in Harlow have been locked up for over three years combined. Ronnie Bromley, 25, and Tevin Christy, 23, both from Harlow, were sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court on Tuesday, May 28. Bromley got 18 months while Christy received 15 months for possession of a knife.

Knife Passed During Early Morning Fight

The drama unfolded in Market Square on the early hours of Saturday, November 24, 2018. Police were called at 2.55am after Bromley showed up at hospital with a stab wound to his buttock. CCTV footage revealed Bromley, Christy, and others clashing with a group of teenagers in a narrow alley.

During the scuffle, Bromley and Christy were seen passing a knife between them. Bromley ended up injured after being attacked by a 17-year-old boy. Bromley was arrested that day, the teen was caught two days later, and Christy was nabbed months later on February 2.

Cops Detail Violent Incident and Sentencing

“This was an extremely serious incident in which Bromley was stabbed. It was only fortune that he survived,” said DC Ryan Burgess of Harlow CID.

“Bromley was not an innocent party and was armed with a knife. This knife was also passed to Christy during the disturbance. Both men claimed self-defence, but it’s clear they were the aggressors in a fight where one ended up seriously hurt. They’ll face the consequences of carrying a weapon.”

Teenager Also Punished for Role

The 17-year-old attacker can’t be named for legal reasons but has faced his own harsh penalties. Found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, threatening with a blade, and violent disorder, he was sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court on May 24.

  • 30-month supervision order
  • 91 days unpaid work
  • Six months electronic curfew
  • Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) for 15 months

The CBO bans him from entering Harlow town centre unless with an adult or pre-arranged appointment, carrying knives or blades in public, and associating with specified individuals.

The teen has already spent time in detention on remand and faces strict monitoring moving forward.
