Devilish Duo Swipes £4,000 in Eastbourne Roof Rip-Off
Golden Years Couple Targeted in Brazen Scam
Two pensioners in their 90s were conned out of a whopping £4,000 in a sneaky distraction burglary in Eastbourne. On Wednesday morning, just after 11am, a pair of men knocked on their door in Magpie Road claiming the roof was damaged.
Fake Roof Repairs Lead to Huge Theft
The scammers promised to fix the alleged damage for a £350 deposit, which the elderly victim handed over from a money tin. The men said they’d come back with equipment to carry out the “repairs”. But that was a lie.
Shortly after, one of the crooks swiped the tin containing not just cash but also bank cards and personal valuables worth around £4,000. The victim spotted the tin was missing about 15 minutes later and quickly alerted the police.
