Two Arrested After Police End Dangerous Bridge Protest
Police have finally brought a risky bridge protest to a close, arresting two men on suspicion of conspiracy to commit public nuisance. Officers teamed up with partners and used an elevated platform to safely reach and remove the protesters.
Chief Supt Simon Anslow Speaks Out
“We cannot tolerate people carrying out activity which puts lives at risk and prevents people from going about their lives,” said Chief Superintendent Simon Anslow, who led the operation.
“I know this has been really frustrating for the public. The disruption has hurt businesses and caused people to miss appointments.”
“Alongside our partners, we worked hard to resolve this complex situation as quickly and safely as possible.”
“Now the situation has been resolved, National Highways will decide when and how the bridge can re-open.”
Police: We Support Safe Protests but Not Dangerous Stunts
Ch Supt Anslow added: “We are not anti-protest. We always try to facilitate safe protest where we can.”
“However, putting lives in danger with irresponsible actions is unacceptable. In this case, we had to act, but safely and responsibly.”
“Thanks to the public for their patience and understanding throughout.”
A specialist team is now leading the investigation, gathering evidence for a Crown Prosecution Service decision. Authorities aim for a positive outcome to prevent any repeat of this dangerous disruption.
