Two Re-Arrested Over Baby Death in Hythe

Police have re-arrested two people in connection with the death of a one-month-old baby in Hythe back in February 2019.

Tragic Case Dates Back to February 2019

The ambulance service was called to a seriously ill infant on the morning of Saturday 2 February 2019. The baby was rushed to southampton/" title="Southampton" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Southampton General Hospital but sadly died four days later on Wednesday 6 February.

Suspects Held on Murder and Child Death Charges

Initially, a man and a woman from Hythe were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder shortly after the incident. They were questioned and released on bail. Both were re-arrested in August 2019, this time on suspicion of murder, before being bailed again.

Now, on 14 July 2020, Hampshire Police have confirmed the 26-year-old woman is wanted for murder, while the 42-year-old man is under suspicion of allowing the death of a child. Both remain in custody.

Hampshire Police spokesman: “Today (July 14, 2020) we have re-arrested a 26-year-old woman on suspicion of murder, and a 42-year-old man on suspicion of allowing the death of a child.”
