Louis Whelan and Anthony Keating, both 23, have been convicted for the savage murder of 22-year-old Blaine Hammond. The horrific attack happened early on December 3 last year.
Beaten and Abandoned: A Brutal Crime
Blaine was brutally assaulted before his battered body was dragged and dumped in a disused exchange box across the street on Saltburn Road. Emergency services discovered him and despite their efforts, Blaine was pronounced dead at the scene.
Justice Served After Four-Week Trial
Following an extensive investigation involving CCTV footage, house-to-house inquiries, and forensic work, police arrested and charged Whelan, from Towcester, and Keating, from Palmerston Road, with murder. After a four-week trial at Newcastle Crown Court, the jury found the pair guilty.
Both men were remanded in custody and await sentencing.
Police Pay Tribute and Thank the Community
“Our thoughts remain with Blaine’s family,” said Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Sharon Chatterton. “This was a shocking and brutal attack that has left a family devastated. The offenders denied the charges, making the family endure a painful trial. This verdict hopefully offers some closure.”
“I also want to thank the dedicated officers and local community who helped bring justice for Blaine.”
