East Kent Teens Targeted in Chilling Sextortion Scare
Detectives in East Kent are on high alert after a spike in reports of chilling sextortion cases. In recent weeks, blackmailers have threatened to post intimate videos or fake photos online, targeting mostly teenagers and young adults—but no one is safe.
What Is Sextortion?
Sextortion is a vile cybercrime where criminals lure victims into performing sexual acts on camera. The footage is then used as blackmail, with threats to share it publicly or with victims’ families unless a ransom is paid.
In some cases, offenders even fake intimate images using innocent photos found online to scare victims into coughing up cash.
Recent Shocking Cases in Canterbury and Thanet
- Earlier this month, a Canterbury teen was pressured into performing a sex act with threats to expose the video to family and friends.
- Another teenager from Thanet was tricked into sending a photo, warned it would be morphed onto a naked body and shared if they didn’t pay up.
These horrific crimes are under investigation, and we’re committed to bringing the offenders to justice,” said Detective Sergeant Vanessa Law of 123.
“Victims should never feel ashamed. You are not alone, and the police handle every report confidentially and without judgment,” added Detective Sergeant Vanessa Law.
