Teenagers in East Kent Face Rising Sextortion Threats
East Kent detectives have been slammed with reports of chilling sextortion cases targeting mainly teens and young adults. Victims are being blackmailed with threats to post intimate videos or fake photos online unless they pay up.
What Is Sextortion?
Sextortion is a nasty cybercrime where offenders trick victims into performing sexual acts on camera. Then, they threaten to share the footage with family and friends unless their demands are met. Sometimes, crooks even create fake explicit images using victims’ photos stolen from the web.
Recent Shocking Cases
- Earlier this month, a Canterbury teen was forced to perform a sex act before being threatened with exposure to their family and friends.
- A teenager in Thanet sent a photo that was then threatened to be superimposed onto a naked body and shared publicly — unless money was transferred immediately.
