Burglar Busted Twice in One Night in Chatham!
Midnight Break-In Foiled by Quick-Thinking Police
Lee Fideghelli, 43, and Mark Abraham, 30, both from The Mount, Chatham, were caught red-handed trying to break into homes on Rochester Street. kent-police/" title="Kent Police" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Kent Police responded swiftly after a neighbour reported suspicious noises at 11.10pm on December 3.
The duo initially claimed they were homeless and just looking for a place to crash. But the truth came out when officers found them in the basement of a multi-occupancy property, with clear signs of forced entry.
Two Burglary Attempts in One Night
- First, the pair tried to break into a property at 10.45pm but fled after failing.
- They returned shortly after but left again when confronted by the occupant.
- The same night, another home was targeted, prompting a quick police call.
Justice Served: Custodial Sentence Imposed
At Maidstone Crown Court on May 14, 2021, Fideghelli admitted burglary and attempted burglary charges. Abraham pleaded guilty earlier at Medway Magistrates’ Court and received a 60-day prison sentence, suspended for one year.
Police Investigator Charlotte Lundy praised the officers for their quick action:
“Fideghelli’s determination to hit two homes in such a short space of time shows no remorse. Our officers acted swiftly to stop any theft before it happened. This custodial sentence makes Medway safer.”
