East Kent Hit by Shocking Sextortion Scare
East Kent detectives have uncovered a nasty new trend targeting teens and young adults. Victims are being blackmailed with threats to release intimate videos or fake photos online unless they pay up. But the twisted scheme doesn’t just stop at youngsters—anyone could be in the crosshairs.
What Is Sextortion?
Sextortion is a vile cybercrime where predators trick victims into performing sexual acts on camera. Then, they threaten to share the footage with family, friends, or the public unless the victim hands over money. In some cases, offenders use old photos to create fake compromising images, ramping up the pressure.
Recently, a Canterbury teen was forced to carry out a sex act before being threatened with exposure. Meanwhile, a teenager in Thanet was blackmailed with fake naked photos made from their own pictures unless they paid.
“We’re investigating all these cases to bring the offenders to justice,” said Detective Sergeant Vanessa Law of 123 via their non-emergency contact methods. Help is available, and no case will be judged.
Stay alert, keep safe, and protect yourself from online predators.
