Violent thug jailed after brutal attack on four police officers in Medway
Brutal assault during arrest in Chatham
Kye Hooper, 37, from Skinner Street, Gillingham, went on the rampage after cops tried to arrest him at a Bryant Street address in Chatham around 10.40pm on Wednesday, 19 March 2025.
When officers attempted to take Hooper to the station, he headbutted and kicked two constables inside the patrol car. But that was just the start.
Violence escalates in custody
Once in custody, Hooper’s aggression didn’t stop. He assaulted two more officers and spat so violently that he damaged a police vehicle.
Swift justice served
- Charged with four counts of assaulting an emergency worker and criminal damage
- Remanded overnight in custody
- Pleaded guilty at Medway Magistrates’ Court
- Sentenced to 16 weeks in prison immediately
Strong words from the top
“Kent’s emergency services should be able to go about their duties assisting the public without being abused or assaulted,” said Chief Inspector Garry Cooke, District Commander for Medway. “The appalling behaviour of this man towards my officers was entirely unacceptable and he was swiftly brought before the court to answer for his actions.”
This case is a stark warning that violence against emergency workers will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
