Wiltshire Police Crackdown on Drink and Drug Drivers Kicks Off This December
A tough new campaign launched Tuesday (1 Dec) aims to wipe out drink and drug driving across Wiltshire this month. Officers are urging the public to report any suspicious drivers to help catch repeat offenders and keep roads safe.
Multiple Arrests in Just 24 Hours
- Devizes: A 33-year-old man was arrested after a roadside drug test at 5pm on 2 Dec. He’s now released under investigation as inquiries continue.
- Salisbury: At 1.15am on 3 Dec, a woman, 36, was caught driving the wrong way down a one-way street. She was arrested for refusing a breath test, assaulting an officer, criminal damage, obstructing police, and driving without a valid licence. She remains in custody at Melksham Police Station.
- Tidworth: Julian Marchant, 37, was caught at 2am for driving over the alcohol limit, driving while disqualified, and without insurance. He’s bailed to appear in court in February.
- Trowbridge: At 2.20am, Robert Pawlowski, 37, was charged with driving over the alcohol limit. He’s also been bailed to court.
- Bradford on Avon: Just before 3am, a 23-year-old man was arrested after drugs and a knife were found in his vehicle. He faces multiple charges including drug driving, driving without insurance, drug supply, and possession of a weapon. He is in custody at Melksham.
Police Warn: No Let-Up on Drug and Drink Drivers
Inspector Mark Freeman from Wiltshire Police Roads Policing said: “We’re working round the clock to stop drivers suspected of drink or drug driving. If you raise concerns, we will act quickly.”
He added: “The risks are huge – you’re not just endangering yourself but everyone else on the road. Convictions mean losing your licence or even time behind bars.”
