Woman with 36 Penalty Points Jailed for Driving While Disqualified—Again!

A 61-year-old woman with a whopping 36 penalty points has landed behind bars after getting caught driving while disqualified—for the second time in just over a month.

Amanda Hickling’s Repeat Offence Lands Her 10 Weeks Inside

Amanda Gail Hickling, from Cherhill, was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 22 February. She pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

The court revealed she was banned from driving until April 2026 and had already served a four-week prison stint in January for the same offence. Yet, she was spotted behind the wheel again in her Nissan Qashqai on the A4361 at Broad Hinton on Friday 21 February.

Caught on Camera and Driving Uninsured

An on-duty Roads Policing officer stopped Hickling after an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) check revealed she had 24 penalty points and her car was uninsured. She was arrested and charged on the spot.

At court the next day, Hickling admitted guilt. Magistrates handed down a 10-week prison sentence and extended her driving ban by another 18 months. The latest offences added 12 points to her licence, ballooning her total to a staggering 36 points.

Police Shocked at Blatant Disregard for the Law

“Hickling showed a blatant disregard for the law when she chose to drive her car, knowing full well she had recently been to prison for the same offence. When pulled over, she insisted she was taking the ban seriously and claimed she had simply ‘pushed her luck’ to drive to the shop,” said PC Oliver Venton.

Her previous offence happened on 7 January in Calne, earning her that four-week jail time. Despite the punishment, she was caught driving disqualified again just weeks later.

Wiltshire Police Urge Public to Stay Vigilant

Wiltshire Police are warning the public about the dangers of disqualified drivers. PC Venton added,

“Disqualified drivers put themselves and others at significant risk. We urge anyone who suspects someone is driving while disqualified or without a valid licence to report it to Wiltshire Police.”

If you spot someone driving unlawfully, call 101 or report it on the Wiltshire Police website.

This case highlights ongoing efforts by Wiltshire Police to crack down on driving offences and keep the roads safe for everyone.
