A young woman has been arrested and bailed after allegedly crashing her car into crowds in Manchester city centre at dawn on Sunday.
Chaos on Deansgate: BMW Swerves Through Festive Crowds
Police were called to Deansgate at around 5am after reports of a grey BMW weaving dangerously through busy streets packed with revellers. Shocking videos on social media show the car zigzagging on the wrong side of the road, narrowly missing pedestrians. One bystander reportedly fell as the vehicle sped past.
Clash Erupts as Car Hits Roadworks Barrier
The BMW then made a sharp U-turn before smashing through a red light at Bridge Street junction. A brawl broke out nearby as several men tried to open the driver’s door. The car rammed a roadworks barrier before screeching off, with onlookers shouting, “He’s going to kill someone!” and “Get out of the way!”
Police Confirm Injured Man Hospitalised; Woman Arrested
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said a 25-year-old man was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries. An 18-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit assault and released on bail.
“Shortly after 5am we were called to reports of a disturbance on South King Street in Manchester city centre,” said GMP. “Emergency services attended, and a 25-year-old man was taken to hospital with injuries which are not life-threatening.”
