A woman who endured a brutal stabbing attack has seen her attacker locked up thanks to the relentless efforts of specially trained Met officers.
Brutal Stabbing Shocks NW5
It all unfolded in the early hours of Monday, 15 November 2021, at a flat on Gilden Crescent, NW5. The victim’s flatmate called police around 1:20am, worried about the attacker’s behaviour after he was drinking heavily.
Attack Details: Ten Stab Wounds
James Legg, 31, of Arlington Road, NW1, first left the room before returning armed with a knife. He launched a sustained and violent assault on the woman, who suffered ten stab wounds. She only escaped further injury by grabbing the knife.
Undeterred, Legg went to the kitchen to fetch another knife. The victim smashed a bathroom door and barricaded herself inside. Legg tried repeatedly to break in before fleeing just ahead of police.
Met Police Nail The Dangerous Man
Police Constable Andrew Fisher, who led the investigation, said: “This was a horrific incident which left the woman with significant stab injuries. From the outset, we made sure she was at the heart of our investigation; supporting her and building the best case for conviction. I’m glad we’ve succeeded and a dangerous man is behind bars. Tackling violence against women and girls is a key Met priority.”
Legg was swiftly caught, refused to explain his actions during police interview, and remained silent throughout questioning. On 6 February, following a trial at Wood Green Crown Court, he was found guilty of attempted murder and now awaits sentencing on 11 April.
Justice for Victim, Warning to Attackers
This conviction sends a powerful message: violent offenders will be hunted down and punished. The Met’s determination to protect women and girls stands strong.
