15 Illegal Migrants Found in Lorry on A350 in Chippenham
The A350 in Chippenham was shut down tonight after emergency services uncovered 15 illegal migrants hidden in the back of a lorry. The incident was sparked by a tip-off from a vigilant member of the public just before 8.30pm, who reported suspicious activity involving the vehicle.
Police and Emergency Crews Respond
Wiltshire Police quickly arrived at the scene and discovered the 15 people packed inside the lorry. A police spokesperson said, “At this early stage, we believe they are all over 16 years old.”
Ambulance and fire service crews carried out initial medical checks on the group. Fourteen were taken into custody, while one person was rushed to hospital for further examination. Thankfully, none are believed to be in serious condition.
Man Arrested Over Suspected People-Smuggling
The A350 remains closed at the Kington Langley crossroads while the lorry is recovered. Meanwhile, a man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of assisting illegal entry and is currently held at swindon/" title="Swindon" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Swindon custody for questioning.
