Tragic Blaze Claims Life of Mother and Two Young Daughters
Aboubacarr Drammeh, 40, has paid a heartbreaking tribute to his wife and two young daughters who died after a devastating fire engulfed their home in Clifton.
Three-year-old Fatimah and her baby sister Naeemah, aged just one, were rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre. Sadly, nothing could save them. Their mother, 28-year-old Fatoumatta Hydara, was placed on life support but passed away two days later.
Deliberate Fire Sparks Murder Probe
The blaze, which tore through the family’s flat on Fairisle Close in the early hours of Sunday, has been ruled deliberate. Police and fire teams launched a triple murder investigation and are questioning a 31-year-old man from Clifton.
Drammeh, who flew back from America after the tragedy, said: “It is with great sadness that we have lost Fatoumatta and our two daughters in such a tragic way.”
“Fatoumatta had a short but beautiful and fulfilling life. A former voluntary worker, she was a happy, bubbly woman who wouldn’t hurt a fly. It’s inconceivable who could commit such a cruel crime against my family.”
“We thank the Ahmadi Muslim community in Nottinghamshire, the Gambian community, local neighbours and all well-wishers for their support during this terrible time.”
“I and my in-laws are left without daughters, grandchildren, and nieces. I will deeply miss my family.”
Police Appeal For Witnesses As Investigation Continues
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski, leading the inquiry, said: “This is an active investigation. We thank those who have helped so far, but anyone with footage or information from Fairisle Close between midnight and 4.30am on Sunday should come forward.”
“My heart goes out to the victims’ family. We are doing everything possible to bring them justice.”
