Arson Suspect Arrested After School Blaze Sparks Chaos
Emergency crews rushed to Stafford County Junior School on Ringwood Road at around 7.20pm on Sunday, November 15, following reports of smoke billowing from the building.
The fire caused major damage to the school, but thankfully no one was hurt.
Eastbourne Man Held Over Suspected Arson Attack
Police believe the blaze was deliberately started. On Thursday, November 26, a 31-year-old man from Eastbourne was arrested on suspicion of arson and remains in custody for questioning.
Detective Constable Jon Moore said: “The investigation is moving at pace as we try to piece together the evidence. We will share updates when possible, but for now I want to assure the community we’re doing everything to solve this case.”
Police and Fire Crews Team Up to Crack Serious Crime
Inspector Rachel Barrow from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team highlighted the impact on the school community:
“This offence is extremely serious and has caused significant disruption to staff, pupils, and the surrounding area. We’re working closely with the fire service and school to understand and respond to the wider impact.”
She added: “Deliberate fires in Eastbourne are a big concern. Both Sussex Police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue are prioritising efforts to reduce risks linked to these crimes.”
