Man Set Ablaze in Shocking Street Attack in Birmingham
Blaze on Brixham Road
West Midlands Police are hunting for a suspect after a man was doused with a substance and set on fire on Brixham Road, Edgbaston, just after 7pm on Monday.
The victim, who had been walking home from Dudley Road mosque, was approached by a stranger. The attacker sprayed him with an unknown liquid before igniting his jacket. The flames caused burns to the man’s face.
Serious But Non-Life Threatening Injuries
The victim was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Thankfully, police say his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
Authorities are investigating a video circulating on social media that shows the horrifying attack. Police are using it to track down those responsible.
Police Appeal for Information
Supt James Spencer said: “Our officers have been working through the night to establish what happened and who is responsible.
“We’re examining CCTV and speaking to witnesses and are determined to find out who is responsible.
“I’ve been speaking to people this morning and know just how concerned they are. People want answers.
“We are determined to find the person responsible and get those answers as soon as possible, and I’d urge the community to work with us and avoid speculation at this stage.”
Extra police officers are patrolling the area today to reassure the public and gather information.
