Back in May 2018, Adams was arrested at Belfast International Airport when officers discovered over 180,000 Euros in his luggage. He was released on bail but vanished without a trace.

Extradited and Charged with Money Laundering

Irish officials escorted Adams to the border near Newry on 18 August, where National Crime Agency (NCA) officers took charge. He faced Antrim Magistrates on three counts of money laundering and was remanded in custody until his next hearing on 7 September.

NCA Commander Praises Cross-Border Cooperation

“We are grateful to the Irish authorities for their assistance in extraditing Adams back to Northern Ireland to face money laundering charges. It demonstrates our commitment to work together to tackle organised crime impacting on both sides of the border,” said NCA Belfast Branch Commander David Cunningham.
