Three Years on, Police Chase Anonymous Tip in Teen’s Brutal Murder
Detectives are zeroing in on an anonymous caller they believe holds the vital clue to solving the cold-blooded murder of 18-year-old Sami Sidhom. Sami was stabbed to death just before 11pm on 16 April 2018, while walking home after watching West Ham vs Stoke in Stratford.
Despite 10 arrests since the attack on Chestnut Avenue in Newham, no one has been charged. Now, police have upped the ante, offering a £20,000 reward for information leading to the killers’ conviction.
Detectives Plead for Anonymous Caller to Step Forward
Detective Inspector John Marriott of the Met’s Serious Crime Command said:
“I understand how daunting it can be to come forward after such a terrible crime, but investigations like this rely on the bravery of witnesses who find it in themselves to do so. My officers are here to provide whatever support we can to anyone willing to tell us what they know.
“Sami’s family have been devastated by the senseless loss of their son. For three years they’ve had only questions, but no justice. I urge anyone with information about Sami’s murder — especially the person who’s previously sent anonymous tips — to contact us.”
Heartbreaking Plea from Sami’s Father
Samer Sidhom made an emotional and powerful appeal to the public:
“My only son, Sami, was stabbed to death near his home returning from his favourite football team’s game. He was only 18. Sami was a wonderful son — kind, respectful, and always helping family and friends. He had done nothing wrong, yet some cowards stabbed him in the back.”
“The killers are still out there free. I need you to provide the evidence to convict them. You know who you are. You can choose to hide in the dark or choose to be brave and set the record straight. Sami was innocent. The only one who can stop them harming others is you.”
What We Know: CCTV Shows Silver Car, Three Men Chasing Sami
After the game, Sami took a bus to Romford Road and walked home via Sebert Road, Cranmer Road, Capel Road, and into Chestnut Avenue. CCTV captured three men chasing Sami down Chestnut Avenue, followed closely by a silver car. After the attack, the silver car and another vehicle sped away.
Detectives urge anyone who witnessed the attack or has information to call 020 8345 3715. Officers promise confidentiality and support to anyone coming forward.
