Met Police Slammed Into Special Measures After String of Scandals
The Met Police has been hit with special measures following a shocking wave of scandals, including the Sarah Everard murder, the Stephen Port inquiry, and the controversial strip search of Child Q.
HMICFRS Puts Met Under the Microscope
Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) confirmed the tough move. The force will now face intense scrutiny and extra support to clean up its act.
We can confirm that we are now monitoring the Metropolitan Police Service through our Engage process, which provides additional scrutiny and support to help it make improvements,” said HMICFRS in a brief statement.
What Triggers Special Measures?
The Engage process kicks in when a police force is either ignoring serious concerns or failing to fix key problems, according to HMICFRS.
- Poor response to issues
- Failure to manage or eradicate problems
The Met is now under the watchful eye of the watchdog — a clear signal that changes must come fast or face further consequences.
