Knife-Wielding Man Caught After Public Alert in Brighton
Quick-thinking locals sparked a police chase after spotting a man carrying a knife in Brighton on Saturday afternoon.
On-the-Run in North Street
At 1.40pm on October 24, a patrolling officer was approached by members of the public in North Street warning about the suspect. The man took off, but officers chased him on foot.
Seafront Arrest Thanks to Public Help
The suspect was finally cornered and arrested on the seafront promenade. Chief Inspector Roy Hodder praised the public’s role, saying:
“I’d like to thank those members of the public who drew the man to our attention in the first place and also those who assisted officers as they pursued the man through the streets before detaining and arresting him.”
The 24-year-old man from Newhaven was arrested on suspicion of threatening behaviour and remained in custody Saturday afternoon.
