Lorry Driver Busted for People Smuggling Near Dover
A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of people smuggling after a National Crime Agency (NCA) operation in Kent stopped a truck near Dover.
Four Migrants Found Hidden in Lorry Trailer
The HGV was pulled over just outside the Dover port at around 1.30pm on 1 October. Officers, supported by local police, found four men packed inside the trailer — two from Bangladesh, one from India, and one Egyptian national.
All four are believed to have entered the UK illegally. They’ve now been handed over to immigration authorities for processing.
Driver, 37, Questioned on Illegal Immigration Charges
The driver, a 37-year-old Romanian national, was due to sail on a ferry to Calais later the same day. He is currently being questioned on suspicion of attempting to facilitate illegal immigration.
NCA Commander Vows to Crack Down on People Smugglers
“Criminal groups involved in people smuggling do not care about the safety or wellbeing of those they transport. They just see them as a commodity to be profited from,” said NCA branch commander Andy Noyes.
“We are determined to do all we can to disrupt their activities. In this case, four individuals have been prevented from making what was undoubtedly a dangerous journey. Our investigation continues.”
