Armed Police Patrol Gunwharf Quays Amid Terror Threat
Armed officers were spotted patrolling Portsmouth’s Gunwharf Quays shopping centre this morning. Hampshire Constabulary has ramped up security with armed and unarmed patrols at “key locations” after the national terrorist threat level was raised to critical.
Security Tightened at Crowded Hotspots
The force did not name exact sites but confirmed its focus remains on “crowded places, including transport hubs and shopping centres.” The critical threat level signals an attack is highly likely, though authorities believe a further incident may be prevented.
Police Urge Public to Stay Alert, Not Alarmed
“At this time we need everyone to remain alert but not alarmed. We need your help to protect our communities and disrupt those who seek to harm us. Please contact the police immediately if you spot suspicious behaviour. Our officers will keep a visible presence in the community, backed by specialist emergency resources,” said Chief Superintendent Lucy Hutson.
Security remains tight across Hampshire as police brace for potential threats. Shoppers and commuters are urged to stay vigilant and report anything unusual without delay.
