Arson Attacks Hit Gosport Play Parks – Police Launch Probe
Police are hunting pyromaniacs after a second Gosport playground went up in flames in just days. The latest blaze tore through the Grove Road play park early Monday morning (27 May), damaging equipment to the tune of £3,300.
Play Parks Targeted by Firebugs
- On 18 May, a fire was started under a slide at the Forton Road recreation ground just before 6pm.
- Between 4.40am and 5am on Sunday 26 May, Alver Valley Country Park saw similar deliberate damage.
Police Sound Alarm Over Dangerous Fires
Inspector Richard Thompson slammed the senseless acts. “In the last two weeks, we’ve seen three incidents where play park equipment has been damaged by fire. It’s heartbreaking.
“These facilities are for the local community, especially kids to have fun, explore, and build friendships. The selfish actions of a few put everyone at risk and ruin these valuable spaces.”
Thompson added that police are working closely with the council to stop these monsters causing more havoc and prevent children losing access to safe play areas.
