Hampshire Enters Tier 4: Police Ready to Clamp Down

Police in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are ramping up efforts as all of Hampshire (except New Forest) moves into Tier 4 from December 26. Non-essential shops will be shut tight, and non-essential travel is banned as part of the latest government crackdown.

Strict Rules, Clear Message

Assistant Chief Constable Maggie Blyth said: “Following the Government’s announcement on changes to the tier system, we want to reassure residents that we will continue to police the pandemic as we have done.”

She confirmed the Isle of Wight and New Forest are now firmly in Tier 3, with tighter restrictions across the board.

Engage, Explain, Enforce

The police will keep using a common-sense approach, focusing on engaging and explaining rules to the public. But don’t expect any leeway for blatant rule-breakers.

“Our approach throughout the pandemic has been to engage, explain and encourage compliance,” said Blyth. “We will enforce when blatant breaches are committed.”

Stay Safe, Stay Informed

Officers will keep up Covid-19 patrols and stay visible in your neighbourhoods alongside partner agencies to keep communities safe.

“We’re still all in this together,” Blyth urged. “If we continue to work together, we can limit infection and save lives.”

Residents are advised to check the government website for full details on restrictions, tiers, and exemptions for their area.
