Two young children including a baby are hospitalised after car hits pedestrians near busy Christmas market in Chipping Sodbury, South Gloucestershire.
Crash at Christmas Market
The shocking crash happened at midday when an elderly driver in his 80s tried to pull out of a parking spot on Chipping Sodbury High Street. The car smashed into a group of pedestrians just steps from a bustling Christmas Sunday fair.
Emergency services raced to the scene, sending ambulance crews and police to the popular market about 13 miles northeast of Bristol.
Children Taken to Hospital
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that while the emergency response was large, thankfully no one has life-threatening or life-changing injuries.
“We’d like to reassure people that despite the large emergency response, no one is currently described as having either life-threatening or life-changing injuries.”
Five adults and two children, including the baby, were assessed on site. The baby and child needed hospital treatment and were taken in for further care.
Market Keeps Going Despite Incident
The organisers say the Christmas market will stay open following advice from police.
“We ask everyone attending to please not take photos of the incident or speculate on social media as we work with emergency services to support those affected.”
Witness Appeal
Police are urging anyone who saw the crash or has video footage to come forward. Avon and Somerset Police are leading the investigation and will provide updates as the situation develops.
