Blackheath Easter Funfair is back with a bang after a scary disturbance forced it to shut down midweek. New heavy-duty security measures are now cracking down to keep families safe.
Youths Cause Chaos Near Funfair
The trouble kicked off around 3:50pm on April 8 near the fair on Prince Charles Road. Police swarmed the scene after reports of a group of youths causing a disturbance. One person suffered minor injuries, and several arrests were made, including for carrying an offensive weapon.
Family Safety Takes Centre Stage
Capital Funfairs, the event organisers, took to Facebook to promise strict new safety rules. “We are a family funfair, for families, run by families,” their statement read.
“To keep things safe, children under 14 must be with an adult, and ID checks will be in place.”
Sniffer Wands and CCTV Crackdown
- Knife detection wands at entry points
- Extra CCTV cameras across the fairground
- Security staff empowered to eject unruly visitors
- Zero tolerance for bad behaviour
Capital Funfairs also axed “Mega Deal” discount days for the rest of the event but hinted at new “Family Discount Days” coming soon. Printable vouchers are still available online.
Community on Edge, Police Investigate
The funfair is a hit during the Easter break, but locals were rattled by Tuesday’s violence. Police confirmed most youths had bolted by their arrival but are continuing the investigation. Organisers and cops are working hand in hand to restore trust and keep the event family-friendly.
