Police Boss Slams Online Hate After Senior Officer Appointment

Chief Constable Condemns ‘Vile’ Social Media Abuse

The Chief of British Transport Police, Lucy D’Orsi, has hit out at the flood of vile abuse aimed at new Assistant Chief Constable Karen Findlay. Findlay took up her post on February 16, switching from the Metropolitan Police where she served for years.

In a fiery statement on X (Twitter) on February 17, D’Orsi blasted the “vile, nasty, and homophobic messages” that appeared following the announcement.

“I have been shocked to see how many people took our post, which was celebrating the appointment of a senior woman in policing, as an opportunity to respond with vile, nasty, and homophobic messages,” she said.

Findlay Hits Back at Misogyny and Homophobia

Assistant Chief Constable Findlay also responded, calling for the focus to be on professional achievements — not hateful attacks. She said:

“As female officers and colleagues in policing and beyond, our experience, contribution, and commitment should be the focus. NOT the vile misogynistic, homophobic, sexist vileness experienced.”

Chief Stands Firm Against Bullying

Despite being disgusted by the nasty backlash, D’Orsi decided to keep the social media post live to highlight the ongoing issue of misogyny in policing. She urged for these behaviours to be confronted head-on.

She added, “In policing, we understand the value of public scrutiny; we welcome conversations about policing, actions, and how we can improve. But let me be clear, I will not accept bullying.”

New Boss Brings 30 Years of Experience

Karen Findlay boasts over three decades as an expert leader and public order commander. D’Orsi emphasised Findlay’s impressive record should be what people talk about — not the hateful rubbish aimed at her.
