Car Mounts Pavement and Crashes into Building on Coventry Street
Chaos erupted in central London on Tuesday evening when a car mounted the pavement and smashed into a building at the busy junction of Coventry Street and Haymarket. The dramatic incident happened just before 7pm, with witnesses reporting the vehicle veered off the road and collided with the building.
Two Injured in Shocking Smash
Emergency services rushed to the scene after calls flooded in. A pedestrian and a passenger inside the car were both hurt and swiftly taken to hospital for treatment. The driver escaped serious injury but was also hospitalised as a precaution.
“We treated three patients at the scene. All were taken to a major trauma centre, two as a priority,” confirmed a London Ambulance Service spokesman.
Police Maintain Caution, Close Roads
Met Police confirmed the collision is under investigation but is not being treated as terror-related. Roads around Coventry Street remain closed as officers piece together exactly what happened.
“Police were called at approximately 18:50hrs on Tuesday, 12 November. Witnesses saw the car mount the pavement before hitting a building,” a Met spokesman said. “Two people – a pedestrian and a passenger – were taken to hospital. The driver was not seriously injured but was treated as a precaution. Enquiries continue.”
