Reading Stabbing Declared Terror Attack
The shocking stabbing in Reading on 20 June has been officially labelled a terrorist incident. Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) are now leading the probe, working closely with Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Department.
Suspect in Custody as Investigation Intensifies
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Dean Haydon confirmed the terrorist classification this morning. A 25-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody.
Police Send Grim Message to Community
“I am deeply saddened by the events of last night,” said Chief Constable John Campbell.
“This incident is truly tragic. Our thoughts are with everyone affected. These attacks are incredibly rare but we understand the shock and concern this will cause locally.
“Police cordons will stay up for some time as the investigation continues. We urge the public to avoid the area and not spread unconfirmed rumours or distressing footage online.”
Police Appeal for Information
Officers ask anyone with video footage or information to contact Thames Valley Police on 101, quoting reference 1159 20/6. They stress respecting victims by not sharing graphic content on social media.
