Digger Heist Shakes Cranbrook Supermarket
A brazen raid at a Cranbrook supermarket ended with cash stolen and thousands of pounds worth of damage. The Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate is on the case after crooks used a stolen digger to smash into the Co-operative store on High Street.
Diggers, Damage & Dash
Just after 2am on Thursday, 14 November 2019, thieves hijacked a digger from a nearby building site. They drove it across fields before ramming it into the Co-op, battering the building and the cash machine inside.
The raid caused severe damage to the store and emptied the ATM of a “large amount” of cash. Thankfully, no one was hurt in the smash and grab.
Police Hunt Three Suspects and Missing Vehicle
Kent Police arrived on the scene to find the digger still parked outside the wrecked shop. They also discovered an abandoned vehicle nearby, believed to be linked to the burglary.
Detective Sergeant Jason Booth said: “We remain in the area carrying out enquiries and reviewing CCTV and forensic opportunities. We are looking for three suspects and a third vehicle that may have been used.”
