Distressed Student Crashes Car into Disused Pub in Portsmouth
A blue Vauxhall smashed into the old Travellers Rest pub in Southsea, Portsmouth, this Tuesday morning, causing serious damage to the disused building. Emergency services were called just after 9am.
Desperate Act Sparks Emergency Response
Eyewitnesses say the young driver, a student, appeared extremely distressed and reportedly intended to end his life. One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed the harrowing motive behind the crash.
Council contractors rushed to the scene to shore up the damaged pub wall and make the building safe after the vehicle was left embedded in the frontage.
Driver Treated and Police Investigate
The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. Hampshire Fire and Rescue confirmed that a crew from Southsea Fire Station arrived at 9.18am, secured the scene, and left by 10.08am.
Police are working closely with partner agencies to provide support and investigate the incident further.
