Kent Police Launch Rapid Video Response for Domestic Abuse Victims

Kent Police have rolled out cutting-edge video technology to tackle domestic abuse faster and smarter. Launched on May 18, 2022, the Domestic Abuse Hub lets officers virtually respond to calls deemed low risk without delay.

Instant Help on Screen, Patrols for Immediate Danger

Within minutes of a call, officers can record the crime, take statements, and gather crucial evidence — all via video. This frees up mobile patrols to rush to cases where lives are at risk right now.

  • Since May 2022, 600 calls have been handled virtually, leading to multiple arrests.
  • Officers can instantly safeguard victims and refer them to support agencies.

Quick Action Saves Lives: Real Cases Reveal Success

On June 28, a panic alarm was installed within four hours after a call, and the suspect was caught an hour later. Two days after, police nabbed another offender just eight hours post-reporting, armed with solid video evidence.

Victims have praised the swift, professional service.

“It was amazing to have the service so quickly — I could see the officer, felt connected and reassured,” said one caller. “A five-star experience with an incredible video consultation.”

“The officer was calm and courteous during a long call. Speaking with him made me feel safer,” said another victim.

Optional, Innovative, and Life-Changing Support

Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Banks hailed the Rapid Video Response as a game-changer.

“We can now respond quickly to cases that don’t need immediate in-person visits. This service provides reassurance, proper safeguarding, and helps us hold offenders to account swiftly.”

Emma added the new approach complements Kent’s wider fight against violence towards women and girls, benefiting victims of all backgrounds.
